GPS Setup (Optional)

Installing the Optional GPS Unit

The last step of the installation process is to install the optional GPS unit provided in your kit. This process must be performed with the phone and GPS device within close proximity to each other to ensure that the GPS unit will have access to the phone during installation and vice versa.

Ensure that the phone and GPS device are turned on (and/or plugged into a car charger unit). Also, because the GPS device uses Bluetooth to communicate with the phone, ensure that the phone has Bluetooth turned on. To ensure this, look at the front of the phone. In the top left corner is a light which should be blinking blue. If this is not the case, you need to perform the following tasks to turn on Bluetooth.

Get to the start page for the phone. To get to this location, click the start menu in the top left of the phone and click Today.

On the bottom of the phone you'll see a couple different icons. The far left icon should be the communication console for the phone. Clicking this icon will bring up the wireless manager for the phone. This screen will vary, but one of the icons on this screen will allow you to turn on the Bluetooth functionality of the phone. Once you do so, the blue light will start blinking on the phone. Whenever the GPS unit is needed, this Bluetooth functionality must be turned on.

The next step in this process is to install the GPS device onto the phone. This process is needed to allow the phone to communicate with the GPS device via Bluetooth. In order to do this, a partnership needs to be created between your GPS device and your phone.

The first step in creating a partnership is to go into the Bluetooth settings for your phone. This is accomplished on the same page previously discussed to turn Bluetooth on, the Wireless communication window.

On the bottom of the screen is a menu which will allow you to go into the Bluetooth settings. This opens the windows Bluetooth manager. Click the devices tab to see the list of devices which are currently partnered with this device. If you already see the HI-406 GPS device listed, this step has already been completed.

If you do not see the GPS device registered, click "New partnership" This will search the Bluetooth signals for any compatible device. You should see the HT406 device show up.
